On Saturday, the Wieblingen Volunteer Fire Department came to our plant for a joint exercise. Two scenarios: a hazardous materials incident and a forklift fire.
Working with chemicals means a lot of different things can go wrong, and each situation calls for a different response. Procedures on paper only get you so far. What matters is that both sides know the site, know each other, and know what happens in the first minutes.
That is what a drill like this gives us. The crews get familiar with our conditions on the ground, and we see how communication, site access, and our own procedures hold up.
